This guide is intended for system administrators who configure, manage, and deploy Teradici PCoIP® Remote Workstation Cards in a PCoIP environment. Administrators are expected to have experience configuring PCoIP clients and a working knowledge of networking principles and use of the PCoIP protocol.

A PCoIP Remote Workstation Card is a small add-in card that can be integrated into tower workstations, rack-mounted workstations, compute blades, and server blades. PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards are manufactured and integrated by several graphics-card manufacturers, support widescreen formats, and are powered by TERA2220 or TERA2240 processors. The card's TERA-series processor uses advanced video-compression algorithms to encode a user's complete workstation environment and then communicate over an IP network with the user's PCoIP client endpoint. Because PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards have no general-purpose CPUs, local data storage, or application operating systems, they are highly secure and easy to manage. This is separate from the host PC, which has general-purpose CPUs and local data storage. PCoIP Remote Workstation Cards contain upgradeable firmware that allows the card to be customized with various features.

You can pair any Remote Workstation Card with any PCoIP Zero Client. However, when connecting a PCoIP Zero Client endpoint to a Remote Workstation Card, the maximum resolutions supported for any monitor connected to the endpoint will be limited to the highest common capability supported by both devices. For example, if you connect a TERA2140 PCoIP Zero Client to a TERA2240 Remote Workstation Card, you can connect up to four 1920x1200 monitors or two 3840x2160 monitors. If you connect a TERA2321 PCoIP Zero Client to the same Remote Workstation Card, the options are up to two 1920x1200 monitors or one 3840x2160 monitor.
